Certification Mark
Projects that achieve certification at a Basic or Enhanced level, against our certification criteria, will be able to use our Certification Mark in their printed an online media, including any relevant project registries.
We have partnered with Kana to fully digitise the Community Inclusion Standard. Any projects passing an audit for the CIS will be flagged in their UK projects directory. Through the FIRNS CIS development project, 3 projects, registered under the Woodland Carbon Code, passed trial audits by Soil Association Certification.
Our standard has been designed as a 'standalone' or 'plug-in'.
'Standalone' certification allows projects to get assessed even before they have determined which code or credit scheme to utilise. It also means projects can be certified even if the code or credit scheme they are utilising have yet to adopt our certification criteria within their standard.
Certification requires an assessment by our member Soil Association Certification; a leading certification, validation and verification body in the organic, forestry and carbon sectors.
As a 'plug-in' we offer our certification mark to projects who are registered and compliant with a recognised code or credit scheme. It will also require the code or credit scheme to adopt a tailored version of our certification criteria within their standard.
Our definition of a recognised' code or scheme's status with respect to accreditation to the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) and/or the BSI Nature Investment Standards (BSI-NIS).
Use of our certification mark is dependent upon making the necessary licensing agreements with the NFCA. Licensing is currently free for all members of the NFCA, for projects that appear on our case studies webpage.
